Recently, a document was released which has been written for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), entitled "Challenging Homophobia and Heterosexism: A K-12 Curriculum Resource Guide." As the name suggests, this resource guide (NOT curriculum -- a distinction the Conservatives apparently failed to notice) was written to support TDSB teachers and educators in battling homophobia and heterosexism.

Today – May 17, 2011 – is International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.  As stated by US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, “Homophobia, transphobia and the brutal hostility associated with them are often rooted in a lack of understanding of what it actually means to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT).”  Ignorance breeds hate and hostility, and sadly, it’s all around us.  You can read the full statement release here. Homophobic Bullying – It Must Stop

As Ellen DeGeneres said it in her recent video about this issue, “One life lost in this senseless way is tragic; four lives lost is a crisis”. In the past month alone, at least four teens in the US have committed suicide after being subjected to homophobic bullying and teasing.  These kids felt that they had no other option, and that death was easier than dealing with what they were going through.
